Self-destruction, like driving fast cars or wearing too much black, is a phase many of us commonly enter and (fingers crossed) exit at some point along the road of life. Sure, I still dabble, but the demolition is executed with a more focused purpose these days, and sometimes you need to tear something down in order to build it back up properly. My friend, she says: "sometimes the barn needs painted; sometimes the barn needs torn down!" So, let us take heed of her advice, shall we? Look me in the face and tell me we just need a few renovations. Look at this musty structure, founded on shaky ground, with its walls of rotting planks only hastily nailed together in the first place, covered by an army of shingles suffering from a high rate of desertion among its ranks, and utterly sunless from windows we neglected to include in the blueprints. I serve as the only decoration in this tomb, my martyred body hanging like a fading ornament from the rafters. Raze the condemned building, rescue the girl. Oh, come on, oh, come on. Pull on your boots, dust off your toolkit, and come cut me down one night.
